This latest ebook by Ms. J.B. Snow, The Critical Nature of the Aspie or OCPD Husband, The Hard Truth: Living with a Partner on the Autism Spectrum, fully lays bare the stark, and often, very unsettling TRUTH of the seriousness and very real dangers inherent in these mental disorders when they manifest in fully developed form. Ms. Snow, to her credit, ‘pulls no punches’ when she correctly labels such behaviors as ‘abrasive and extremely abusive’ to, in particular, wives of such unfortunately, pathologically obsessive-compulsive males. She cites the statistic that as many as 80 to 90 percent of wives eventually divorce such men; choosing sanity, peace, and freedom for themselves, over dangerous occurrences such as stalking, violence, and even spousal rape, at the spectrum extremes. Further, Ms. Snow provides essential recognitions and sober observations to female partners or mates who are drawn to such men in intimate relationships. These include ‘The life of the Aspie and OCPD man’s wife is eternally difficult,’ ‘The wife who stays with her [Aspie or OCPD] husband until the end of his time might look back on her life with regret’, and ‘Many people with Asperger’s Disorder and OCPD don’t know what love is,’ are all prominent examples. Soviet and Russian anti aircraft vehicles

This book is on the middle to upper end of the Osprey scale. It has a lot of really excellent photos and other illustrations and gives a good history of the various systems developed by the Soviets. Guardia also does an very good job describing similar systems fielded by NATO as well as NATO aircraft countermeasures. There are a number of editing errors I found troubling, by way of example one of the Soviet guns was given an armor penetration of 110 cm which seems like it should be 110 mm. Osprey's editorial staff should have caught that and I think they let down the reader, and the author by not tightening up and catching such errors before the book goes to print. Otherwise this is an excellent work and well worth getting. I recommend this for anyone with an interest in Soviet AFV or in air defense systems in general.

Interesting fare

Self-propelled anti-aircraft weapons have been around for quite some time and certainly they’ll often have a presence. Those of the Soviet Union are no different. This book takes the tale from the beginning with the ZSU-37 introduced in 1945 (but which didn’t see combat apparently) through to the 9K22 Tunguska – with a good amount of time spent on the well known SZU 23-4.

This – the 222nd instalment of the New Vanguard series by Osprey - conforms to the premise of the series in that it is very concise, has lots of photographs of the vehicles from different angles and has colour illustrations. This latter is of course a boon for modellers and the splashes of colour really do liven up the books. There is a short bibliography and unlike many bibliographies in the Osprey series that deal with Soviet armour this one is made up of books written in English.

In some instalments of this series there is so much information to pack in that there is no time to discuss the vehicles operational use. Luckily in this one there is room for some of that and it was interesting to read how some of these weapons went in a live scenario.

All up a good instalment of this series and on an interesting subject to boot. Recommended.

Self-propelled anti-aircraft guns of the Soviet Union is another great book by the osprey series, book provides great detail and lots of drawing and pictures. The most interesting for me was reading about the latest ant-aircraft system the SA-22 weapon system that is now in service and the mods being done on this system. The other older systems are also covered but the most recent data on the current new systems was well worth the purchase. Easy read and enjoyable

About the Author
Glenn Ogura is the executive vice president for a New Hampshire-based laser micromachining company. He is a graduate of Electrical Engineering from Queen 's University in Canada. He lives with his wife in California. This is his first novel.

Great Summer Read

This novel has all the ingredients of an epic thriller. I ended up turning the pages much quicker than expected, and thoroughly enjoyed the escape from some of life's distractions.

The characters are well developed and intriguing, particularly the evil CEO Allen Henley of Display Technik who will stop at nothing to destroy his former prized disciple Zack Penny and his talented team that dared to leave the security of a giant company to make it on their own in the same industry. The research done on the technology of the patented process that will revolutionize TV watching, and the legal system that Henley maneuvers through with the help of his lifelong attorney pal is painstaking, and thorough.

The book flows nicely from one scene to the next right up to the tantalizing ending full of suspense and a few surprises.

It's hard to believe that Ogura or anyone could craft such a fabulous story their first time out. If this is indicative of his work, I hope to be reading many more novels from him.

A great summer read!

Startup is a fast paced page-turner and a fun and easy read. The action is fast and the plot has many twists that are totally unexpected. The ending is fantastic! The characters are well thought out and easy to relate to. It is a perfect book for those interested in business and the all too-human strong personal relationships that somehow have to work work out also (business, personal and romantic relationships). It is about a both a Startup and existing company and could be about any business. It was hard for me to believe that this was a first time author. I hope this is not his last book. A good book for traveling, a day at the beach or just relaxing. Highly recommended.

Zack Penny has a silicon dream of starting up his own company, Imagination. Along with a handful of his electrical engineer buddies from Display Tecknik, Zack has everything he needs to produce a unique multimillion-dollar product, a “cutting-edge flat-display” screen, which uses a totally different technology than Display Tecknik. Zack also has the perfect business model — to always keep open communication and give his employees the proper respect they deserve. At Display Tecknik, CEO Allen Henley is the model to follow. He sets up the rules, period. Although Zack and his crew keep a very low profile while they put the last minute touches on Imagination, Allen gets wind of Zack’s plans and fires Zack and his troupe on the spot. But this is not the end. Allen’s idea of fighting competition means to go out for the kill. The small band of friends, and most especially Zack, have no idea that they are about to experience eleven days of living hell.

In his fast-paced debut thriller, Ogura spins a story of hope caught in the jaws of greed. Zack, the protagonist, is an ordinary guy with big hopes, not just for Imagination, but also for the love of his life, Mary Anne, who happens to be Allen’s daughter. No doubt, Mary Anne becomes an unwitting participant in Allen’s malicious plans toward Zack’s demise, but there is nothing hackneyed about Ogura’s method for unfolding Allen’s wicked intentions. Keeping each chapter short and riveting, Ogura flips from protagonist to antagonist scenes and, at times, the audience gets to see what’s going to happen before the characters do. He also incorporates scenes that are purely focused on a particular character, juxtaposing their struggles with their past while interweaving panoramic scenes of San Francisco or highlighting snippets of historical information.

Ogura includes nothing but a stellar cast of characters that cover the gamut of simple everyday people to the lives of those – particularly the antagonist, Allen — who have been completely engulfed by the evils of power and wealth. His character development centers more on the thoughts that shape each personality than outward appearances. This design permits Ogura full usage of third person omniscient view, and thereby provides readers with a glimpse into each character’s joy and pain, especially those who have a difficult time standing up to Allen’s overbearing demeanor.

Ogura, who has a degree in electrical engineering, is also a highly gifted writer. Indeed, he has proven that he can construct an incredibly imaginative narrative from beginning to end. It is this reviewer’s hope that Startup will be the first of many Ogura bestsellers.

Since 1996, he has held the unique Chair of Excellence in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis. Bollobas has previously written over 250 research papers in extremal and probabilistic combinatorics, functional analysis, probability theory, isoperimetric inequalities and polynomials of graphs.

About the Author
Richard H. Cox received his PhD in Sport Psychology and Motor Learning from the University of Oregon in 1973 and his Master's and undergraduate degrees from Brigham Young University in 1967 and 1968. Widely published in the areas of sport psychology, exercise psychology, and motor learning, Dr. Cox was a faculty member at Kansas State University for 12 years, Ball State University for 4 years, and is now in his 15th year at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he has served as chair of the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences and chair of the Department of Education, School and Counseling Psychology and Director of the Sport Psychology program in Counseling Psychology. Dr. Cox is a Fellow in the Research Consortium of the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and a Certified Consultant in the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology.

DO NOT BUY!

DO NOT BUY This book. It is terribly written. There were numerous typos, and some of the definitions were way off. This prompted me to look up some definitions on Wikipedia, and low and behold, a vast majority of the definitions were copied word for word from Wikipedia. This book is a fraud.

Educational book worth the read

This Sport Psych book was great. I minored in Sport and Exercise Psychology in undergraduate school and this book had a lot of useful information in it. My professor was great at teaching but the book was a good supplement. The diagrams and tables are easy to understand in this book and help piece the information together. This book covers a lot of different areas and I found them very useful.

I do not liket the first few chapters, but the things I learned in the later chapters come up in my life very regularly. I find myself constantly recommending this book, and consequently, I've purchased an extra two books in order to loan them out. Sports psychology is a highly relevant field to anyone seeking to achieve anything, and the author does a fine job conveying most of the information in the text.

Wisdom resurfacing

Cajete's book is a fine work, that incorporates traditional Native American practices into the modern world. I recommend it to all teachers and students and American history for within the pages are academic, creative, and wholestic ways to approach learning and living. The book clearly sparkles with Native American philosophy/religion (ecosophy)which thought provokiing and clearly stated. The text weaves the traditional symbols and Indigenous American social customs into the modern educational practices of the USA. Respectful, multifaceted and interesting read.

Barbara Brundage has been the author of Photoshop Elements: The Missing Manual since Elements 3, is an Adobe Community Expert, and has been a member of Adobe's prerelease groups since Elements 3. She's been teaching people how to use Photoshop Elements since it first came out in 2001. Barbara, who lives in Jensen Beach, Florida, started using Elements to create graphics for use in her day job as a harpist, music publisher, and arranger. Along the way, she joined the large group of people finding a renewed interest in photography thanks to digital cameras. If she can learn to use Elements, you can, too!

Yes...this is indeed the manual that should have been in the box!

O'Reilly's "Missing Manual" series claims each of their titles is "The book that should have been in the box". While I can't speak for the entire series, I have purchased and used several of them, including the missing manuals for three different versions of Photoshop Elements (PSE).

PSE 10 is very similar at the user interface level to versions 8 and 9, and it is --like its predecessor versions-- extremely feature dense. This makes it both a powerful digital image editor, and a potential well of frustration for users. While PSE 10 includes some automated and guided image editing functions, users hoping to harness its full power will achieve this sooner if they grab some help. Barbara Brundage offers this assistance in a detailed guide that explores the higher functions of PSE, while respecting the challenges many readers may have in grasping complex technology.

Brundage offers both conceptual overviews and tutorials of PSE 10'as interface and functions. She effectively breaks down the the concepts of file management, basic editing, image manipulation and sharing of the results of these digital editing techniques.

This book is particularly effective in addressing the two areas that can lead to delight --or despair-- among would-be photo editors: selection and layering in PSE.

The conceptual discussions and tutorials in this book are intelligently discussed and laid out in good detail. The companion materials to this book are online ("the missing CD"), and include links to sample images used for demonstrations in the book, and to other online resources to assist with PSE mastery. The author and creative team both have links to their own websites and email addresses listed in the introduction. You will also see that I have responded directly to other reviewers' comments. This indicates strong ownership and a high level of accessibility. In addition, the author readily --and correctly-- points out that many high quality step-by-step guides to most things you might want to do are readily found on popular video sites.

Two things to note before diving into this book and your PSE 10 experience:
the appendix to the book is found at the rear, and addresses installation issues. This wpould be better placed at the front and combined with the "what's new" portion, since install issues are the first pitfall area that users could encounter. Finally, sometimes the book gushes just a bit about the overall capabilities of PSE ("while it's doing wonderful things to your picture..."). These are minor points, and in no way diminish from the overall usefulness of this must have reference for users of PSE 10.

A Must Have Manual

This work fills an obvious and glaring need for a usable and comprehensive manual. Software publishers seem to have gone from including detailed usable manuals with their products, to printable manuals on disk, to a very sketchy start up guide (as in the case of Adobe Photoshop Elements 12), and at times to nil. The software product is incredibly powerful; but without this guide you'll probably never unlock its potential.
One of the best features of this book is that you can start with the most basic work, an approach that assumes you know nothing; or you drive ahead to advanced work that builds on your current product knowledge and skills. You may start as a beginner; but with some diligence you will become a proficient user of this powerful software.
The book itself with more than 600 pages, seems very complete in its approach. In fact its introduction is longer than the startup guide included with the product. There are innumerable examples in both black and white and color. It has a comprehensive index, but lacks a disk. It does, however, refer you to its webpage where you can download some useful tools and tutorials.

This really is, as the subtitle indicates, the missing manual that should have been included with Photoshop Elements! This book covers absolutely everything I can think of and then some. I am an avid Elements user, and I've learned most of what I do by trial and error. The video tutorials on the Adobe website are not all that helpful sometimes. They are often tailored to an older version of Elements, and the menu options aren't the same.

I love how this book goes through every menu option in Elements 12 and explains what it is for, and how to use it. The book is full of pictures to illustrate each concept. For the complete beginner the first chapters cover the basics, including sizing, cropping, sorting photos, even how to upload them if you haven't done that before.

Then, it starts to get into more technical stuff. The book is grouped by sections of chapters all relating to a particular aspect of editing. The tutorials in the Elemental Elements section include how to extract an object from a picture that you don't want there, the basics of using layers, and how to use brushes for selection. The section on retouching is an in-depth look at fixing everything from color, lighting, composition problems and so, so much more!

The artistic elements section gets into the, well, artsy stuff you can do. How else can I explain it? It includes filters, brushes, tools effects, and text, among the most memorable techniques. The section on sharing images helps you to format your pictures for the web and email, create books, greeting cards, and other printable projects. It also helps with making presentations and such.

Throughout the book and in the resources at the back, you'll find references for helpful websites to visit, and places to find additional tools.

This is a very thick book, and I can't say enough about how much content it includes. The BEST I have seen for the home photographer to learn about editing. It's so easy to use and well organized. There is a handy index in the back for finding topics. And, instead of charging even more to add a CD, inside the back cover, you'll find a link to the missing manual website where free updates to the tutorials are located.

Don't miss the biggest benefit of the book. Go to the website for Missing Manuals listed in the back cover on the "missing CD" page and register your book. You'll find a list of every hyperlink mentioned in the book and organized by chapter. That way, as you read, you can click the hyperlinks without having to type anything in a browser. And, you will find links to practice files where you can try the techniques taught in the book. This is a fantastic idea!

Could a better understanding of etiquette have prevented the Enron scandal? Well, lying to shareholders never constituted good manners in anyone's book, nor good business sense, so perhaps. Drawing such lines is what the Posts attempt in the early chapters of this updated version of their business etiquette book, where they equate good ethics with good business. But really, is the slope between saying that the boss is in a meeting (when he's not) and distorting P&L statements actually that slippery? In trying to suggest that it is, the early chapters of this book provide little helpful guidance on actionable business conduct and come dangerously close to mimicking an employee handbook. Once the authors leave behind the discussion of ethics, cubicle etiquette and general office building conduct-please, no singing to your iPod in the elevator-one finds the content one expects from the Posts, like a mini-course in wine selection, pointers on making small talk with anyone, tips for trouble-free business travel and modern-day rules for handshaking. (FYI, it's no longer gender-specific, and women should always extend a hand, even if wearing glamorous evening gloves.) Ultimately, such social tips are more useful than the Posts' advice to tell your boss that lying about his whereabouts makes you uncomfortable. The authors also include substantial content on conducting a well-mannered job search.
